Our Facilities

Retrievers thrive in an environment that offers them both mental and physical challenges in a well-presented lesson plan. Without varied training grounds, teaching concepts can make it hard for the dog to understand the lesson. Swift River has access to many grounds where dogs can feel safe and focus on the lesson at hand. Along with varied training grounds, dogs need to have a consistent routine and enjoy the safety and comfort of their own kennel when they are not working. Swift River offers an atmosphere conducive to the enhancement of the dog’s progress in our program.

Healthy and happy dogs learn better, we feed Eukanuba Lamb & Rice, Maintenance Formula or High Performance. Dogs are fed twice a day and have constant access to fresh water. Kennels are washed and cleaned at least daily. Dogs travel to training sites in the safety of a stainless steel chassis mount dog box built by CPH Sales. All latches are positive lock and safety clipped when traveling.

Kennels

Swift River Retrievers’ kennel facilities are located on 15 acres in Orange, Massachusetts. We have room for 20+ dogs in our kennels. Our heated kennel building has indoor/outdoor runs and a washing/grooming area. For your dog’s comfort, each kennel is equipped with a Kuranda bed. We have 4 separate airing yards with plenty of room to run. The kennel building is protected by a fire and security system.

Training Grounds

We own some of the best technical water in New England. Our training grounds are a short drive from Orange. We have 120 acres, located in Templeton Massachusetts, with 3 technical ponds, several long entry ponds and a stick pond. These ponds offer many different looks and diverse training opportunities such as re-entries. We also have access to many local fields that give us the opportunity to strengthen our dogs marking abilities. By being able to repeat marking concepts in varied locations, our retrievers build on the success that comes with lot’s of teaching. Flat fields and rolling terrain, retrievers need to experience many different situations to be able to accomplish your goals whether it is competition or hunting, your retriever will be a better companion when he learns to deal effectively with diverse grounds.

We are continually improving the training grounds at Templeton. In the fall of 2005 an additional 6 acres were cleared to enhance the land and water training opportunities.

Access to training grounds is one of the hardest things for an amateur trainer to find. We have it here at Swift River Retrievers.
